Can a bot read my other private chats?
Messaging an ordinary bot does not give it access to every private conversation in your account. It receives what you send to that bot, along with public account information. A Telegram Business connection is different: it can include the chats assigned to that service. Telegram’s bot data policy.
For example, asking a bot to rewrite a delivery message does not require the customer’s address. Replace names and addresses with invented details first.
What changes inside a group?
With group privacy enabled, a bot receives selected interactions such as commands addressed to it and replies to its messages. A bot with broader group access can receive the conversation. Telegram says you can see the current privacy setting in the group’s member list. Telegram’s group privacy documentation.
Check that setting before discussing something you would not send to the operator. If a bot ignores plain messages, use its documented command or ask the group administrator; our troubleshooting guide separates group access from other causes.
What about inline bots, links and Business chats?
- Inline search: typing a query after an inline bot’s username sends the query to that bot.
- External links: a website controlled by the operator can receive your IP address when you open it.
- Telegram Business: a connected chatbot can access messages, media and files in the private chats it is allowed to manage. Review or revoke that access in Settings → Telegram Business → Chatbots.
These are separate interactions described in Telegram’s policy. Read the actual connection screen before agreeing.
Can I delete what the operator kept?
Check the service’s own policy for storage, retention, other processing providers and a deletion route. Removing a message from your chat is not evidence that every external copy is gone. If the operator gives no clear answer, record that as unknown.
